Each session comprises one session of IVF and embryo transfer, including:

  • superovulation of donor females at ages of 21-28 days (8 - 12 females at common genetic backgrounds, such as C57BL/6);
  • harvesting oocytes from donor females;
  • harvesting fresh sperms from the epididymis of male mice at age of 10-24 weeks, or thawing one aliquot of cryopreserved sperm;
  • performing IVF;
  • harvesting and washing the resulting embryos (In accordance with guidelines promulgated by the International Embryo Transfer Society to eliminate the pathogens if necessary);
  • preparation of pseudopregnant females for embryo transfer; and
  • transfer of all the resulting embryos to pseudopregnant recipients (Up to 4 pseudopregnant females).

Useful information

  • We will use cryopreserved sperms (or fresh sperms) to perform an IVF using female donors at common genetic backgrounds, such as C57BL/6. Other backgrounds will possess a higher fee due to the increased cost of females and quantity required for a successful IVF.
  • If the cryopreserved sperms were not frozen by us, the sample and information listed below must be submitted and we will evaluate it for feasibility.
    > At least 3 aliquots of cryopreserved sperm for reanimation (Aliquots must be shipped directly to LASEC to ensure proper handling of the samples)
    > Genetic background
    > Thaw protocol
    > QC information for that sample
    > Health report
  • If the procedure is successful, mice will be transferred to your colony in about 9 - 12 weeks after recovery.
  • The fertilization rate is highly variable between strains and genetic backgrounds.
  • Due to the cost for oocyte donor animals and labor, every cryorecovery attempt is counted as a session. If there were no fertilized eggs after IVF because of sperm quality, only the cost of IVF (HKD 5,200) will be charged. If there were fertilized eggs and embryo transfer surgeries were performed, the full service fee (HKD 7,900) will be charged.
  • If the sperm has low fertilization and doesn’t provide enough embryos for a transfer, we can attempt the IVF again for a reduced fee, which will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • The number of sessions required could be determined by the user.
  • PCR genotyping is available upon request at additional cost.
